The Istrian Monolith

"A Mediterranean Sanctuary of Stone and Stillness"

In this Istrian villa, we focused on the poetry of raw materiality and the seamless integration of Mediterranean nature into the home’s soul. We utilized a palette of local limestone and aged timber to create an architectural language that feels unearthed rather than built. The courtyard is the heart of the residence, where we preserved mature olive trees and introduced a series of minimalist, cascading water features that provide a cooling, rhythmic soundtrack to the space.

In the transition between the interior and the terrace, we used massive pocket doors to completely dissolve the threshold, allowing the scent of the hills and the soft coastal light to flood the living areas. We anchored the outdoor lounge with low-profile, woven seating and basalt tables that echo the rugged landscape, while the interior dining space features a monolithic stone table as a centerpiece of quiet strength. This project is our tribute to the timeless Istrian landscape, a sanctuary where architectural permanence meets the ephemeral beauty of the sun and the trees.
